The collection of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine encompasses artifacts which function to tell the story of Civil War medicine and how it still impacts people today. The collection includes a wide range of artifacts from the medical instruments and supplies used by the Civil War doctors and caregivers, to medical documents and the personal letters of doctors and nurses, to medical textbooks of the period, to hospital items, and even to some of the weapons which caused the battle wounds.
This site contains the majority of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine’s permanent collection, however new information and new acquisitions are added on a regular basis. Please contact the Director of Research at Terry.Reimer@civilwarmed.org for the most current information.
